MarShield Delivers a Range of Shielding Systems for a High-Spec Nuclear Lab

Canada’s premier Nuclear Science and Technology facility has once again reached out to MarShield for a number of customized shielding solutions. The lab required a tailored solution for a range of applications, each demanding different levels of mobility, storage capacity, shielding integrity, and accessibility. The customer was looking to procure shielded equipment designed specifically for their work environment. Requirements varied across equipment types, and every unit had to be optimized for function without sacrificing nuclear shielding efficacy.

Custom Shielding Designs Built for Complex Nuclear Environments

MarShield’s solution was based on a custom equipment-building approach. After assessing the full scope of needs, three distinct styles of shielded cabinets were developed to meet unique mobility and accessibility requirements.

The shielding requirements called for strict attention to detail. MarShield incorporated proper lead shielding thicknesses and applied seam overlap construction throughout all designs. Among the solutions delivered was a shielded mobile waste container dolly, built with steel casters and a push bar for high-mobility use cases.

Another solution was a double-door lead lined cabinet with 2 inches of lead shielding. This design included a middle seam, which was reinforced using a shielded strip overlap with the same thickness to ensure no radiation shine would occur.

The one unit was finished in 304 Grade stainless steel and the other was a Pantone Coated two-part epoxy-based industrial paint, supporting both durability and aesthetic quality. All custom shielded carts and dollies are supplied with 360° swivel industrial grade casters.

Validation, Documentation, and Delivery Without Delays

MarShield provided a comprehensive suite of services that addressed every aspect of the customer’s requirements. This included custom design, virtual prototyping, and precision manufacturing of shielded equipment tailored to the lab’s unique operational needs. Each unit featured seam overlap construction with lead shielding thickness that matched the rest of the cabinet, delivering full radiation protection without weak points.

The customer required a nuclear radiation integrity test on all shielding solutions. To validate performance, MarShield conducted on-site testing, with full documentation and certification delivered for compliance and internal approvals. As a one-stop solution provider, MarShield managed the entire scope of the project, from concept through delivery, ensuring a seamless experience. Final delivery was completed through white glove service, with strict attention paid to timelines to avoid any disruption to the client’s schedule.

Nuclear Shielding Built to Spec and On Time

The project outcome was a success. All equipment was delivered on time, meeting the lab’s performance and shielding requirements without delay. MarShield provided custom-built products, passed all required nuclear integrity testing, and maintained the shielding reliability expected for a facility of this caliber.

The client was pleased that their procurement stayed on schedule and uninterrupted, ensuring their research timelines moved forward without compromise. The project is a clear example of MarShield’s ability to deliver tailored, high-performance solutions without sacrificing timelines, compliance, or protection.
