MarShield Is Bringing Nuclear Medicine Shielding to EANM 2026

As nuclear medicine expands beyond traditional imaging into advanced PET and targeted radionuclide therapies, facilities face new shielding, workflow, and waste-management challenges. What worked for Tc-99m cameras may not be sufficient for PET, theranostics, or radionuclide therapy. Fortunately, most departments can upgrade rather than rebuild, using modern shielding solutions that support future growth.

Keeping facilities ready for what’s next is why MarShield is heading to the EANM 2026 Annual Congress in Vienna, Austria, from October 17 to 21. Walter Silva, Vice President, Mars Metal, and Syed Abidi, Director of Business & Product Development, will be on site to meet the health physicists, radiopharmacists, radiation-safety officers, and planners who have to make those rooms work.

Why We’re at EANM 2026

EANM is Europe’s largest gathering of nuclear medicine professionals, and where much of the field’s newest research is shared. Advances in radioligand therapy, new PET tracers, and hybrid imaging are presented here long before they reach most facility plans.

Theranostics create new challenges that all raise the same question: is your radiation protection still adequate? Therapeutic radionuclides such as Lu-177 and I-131 introduce longer-lived sources, higher administered activities, contamination-control considerations, and radioactive waste streams that can demand more robust shielding and radiation-safety programs than traditional diagnostic imaging workflows.

Radiation Protection with Nuclear-Grade Experience

MarShield has extensive experience in providing custom radiation shielding, from nuclear medicine imaging suites to research facilities and power plants. That range matters in nuclear medicine, where one department can face high-energy gamma, long-lived waste, and the RF demands of PET, often in rooms that weren’t designed for any of them.

From a single syringe shield to a full PET/CT suite, the material follows the job. Lead, tungsten, high-density concrete, or polyethylene: our design and consultation team matches each one to your isotopes, workload, and floor plan.

Supplying Europe and Overseas Markets

MarShield is a global supplier of radiation shielding solutions. We ship custom shielding to facilities overseas, and European customers can work with us through MarShield Global (Mars Strahlenschutz), our dedicated site for international nuclear medicine, imaging, and nuclear projects.

If you’re planning a new radiopharmacy, a theranostics unit, or a PET/CT suite in Europe, you get the same engineering team and the same quality programs. You can request a technical quote directly through MarShield Global or by emailing our European rep Matthias Hochguertel at info@marsstrahlenschutz.com.

Where Our Nuclear Medicine Radiation Shielding Performs

Every isotope puts different demands on a nuclear medicine department. Here’s where nuclear medicine radiation shielding matters most, and what MarShield builds for each.

The Hot Lab, Where Every Dose Starts

Higher-energy PET isotopes need more protection than a conventional radiopharmacy was built for. Our hot lab shielding includes PET/CT hot lab lead-lined casework, lead brick caves and L-block shields, and clear lead acrylic where staff need to see what they’re handling.

Syringes and Vials, Where Hands Are Closest

The bench is where hands get closest to the dose. Our tungsten vial and syringe shields protect without the bulk of lead, and we make custom tungsten shielding components when a standard shape won’t fit.

Storage and Waste Management, Where Volume Builds Up

Waste management requirements differ dramatically between diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine. Tc-99m has a 6-hour half-life and typically decays to negligible levels within days, while therapeutic radionuclides such as Lu-177 and I-131 may require extended decay-in-storage periods, dedicated waste segregation, and specialized hot lab procedures. We supply lead-lined cabinets, lead and tungsten storage containers, and high-energy shielded decay drums sized to what you actually hold.

PET/CT Rooms, Where the Patient Is the Source

Once a patient is injected, the uptake room, scanner room, and corridor all need protection. Our PET/CT shielding includes lead-lined doors, lead glass, and mobile rolling barriers, built to your shielding report.
