Meet the Nuclear Radiation Shielding Experts at INL Industry Days 2026

Every reactor build, fuel test, and facility upgrade in nuclear energy depends on shielding that performs as designed and is documented well enough to pass regulatory review.

Off-the-shelf nuclear shielding rarely fits these projects. Layouts are often one of a kind, radiation levels are high, and specifications have to match the facility exactly.

Cory Aitken, MarShield’s Technical Shielding Specialist, will be at INL Industry Days in Idaho Falls this November to talk through those requirements.

What’s Happening at INL Industry Days

Hosted by Idaho National Laboratory (INL), INL Industry Days runs November 11–12, 2026, in Idaho Falls. The event gives current and prospective partners a direct look at the lab’s mission priorities, upcoming acquisition opportunities, and partnership pathways. For anyone working on new nuclear projects, it’s a chance to see what’s coming next and start planning the shielding those projects will need before designs are locked in.

New Nuclear Needs New Shielding

Small modular reactors, microreactors, advanced fuels, and new test facilities are moving from design to deployment. Each one changes what the shielding has to do.

  • Smaller footprints: Compact and transportable reactors leave less room for shielding, so it has to deliver the same protection in less space.
  • New radiation profiles: Novel fuels and coolants can shift the mix of gamma and neutron radiation your shielding has to stop.
  • Evolving designs: Test programs change fast. Modular shielding can be reconfigured with each iteration instead of torn out and rebuilt.
  • Retrofits: Existing buildings taking on new missions need shielding fitted around structures never designed for it.

Shielding designed for existing plants won’t always suit these facilities, which is why it needs to be engineered for each project.

Custom Nuclear Shielding Engineered Around Your Facility

MarShield has supplied radiation shielding to nuclear energy plants across Canada and the US for more than 45 years. Instead of standard catalogue sizes, we engineer shielding around your layout, your radiation sources, and your compliance requirements, with design support from early drawings through fabrication and delivery.

Our nuclear line covers lead radiation shielding, lead-free alternatives, and neutron shielding, including:

MarShield is ISO 9001:2015 and CSA N299.3-16 certified, with nuclear industry-approved lead pouring procedures and documentation. For your team, that means shielding you can install with confidence, backed by the quality records your regulators will ask for.
