Case Study: Lead Lined Cabinets for Engineering and Environmental Consulting Firm

An Engineering and environmental consulting company based in New jersey has once again contacted us to assist in their shielding requirements.

They needed another three customed designed cabinets this time for their nuclear gauges and associated instruments.

Nuclear gauges are field instruments used in geological engineering to determine the density of compacted material and can obtain a gamma, beta, or neutron radiation source.

The safe storage and shielding containment of these instruments is very important when not in use.

MarShield worked with their personnel to come up with a design with Adjustable Shelves that could incorporate the various gauges inside a large shielded cabinet.

The various gauges were of different sizes and a few as large as 30 inches x 19 inches and 17 inches.

The challenge also to this project was a strict timeline for completion and delivery to their California location so scheduled prominent personal could overview in the installation process.

Product Specifications

MarShield developed and built the cabinets for this client with three adjustable shelves and the following dimensions:

  • Inside dimensions: 24”w X 34”d X 24.65” h
  • Outside dimensions: 24.63w” X 34.50”d X 69.63”h

The cabinets weighed 1,208 lbs with a low carbon steel A36 OR 44W, 1/16” lead-lined single door with latches and lock. The cabinet was painted grey with POLANE® Plus Polyurethane Enamel.

We also incorporated a shielded 90-degree electrical power side entry box for instrument charging when contained.

Our heavy-duty stainless-steel locking magnetic handle system was also included.

Outcomes

The client was extremely pleased and satisfied once again with the product outcome.

From initial design, manufacture and delivery MarShield met the specified timeline delivery to California.
